On September 17, 2016 MD East Aglow Area Team and Woodlawn Christian Fellowship Pastors Michele and Tom Perrera co-hosted an Anti-Trafficking event at the Woodlawn Christian Fellowship church, 6426 Kriel St., Gwynn Oak, MD 21207, under the guidance of Aglow Regional Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator, Ed Thomas.
Ed got Detective David Blackburn as a speaker, a 19 year veteran with the Baltimore County Police Department and assigned to the Vice Unit which investigates Human Trafficking, prostitution and gambling for the past nine years. Detective Blackburn is also a member of the MD State Human Trafficking Task Force as well as the FBI MD Child Exploitation Task Force.
The event began at 9 a.m. with Welcome and Introductions, then a beautiful, short time of worship led by Sharieff Wilson from the church, after which Pastor Perrera opened with prayer.
Ed introduced the film, “IN PLAIN SIGHT”, which was very well received by this audience of about 22 persons, including four pastors. After the film and following a short break, there was a brief testimony by a previously “abused” person, followed by Detective Blackburn and a fellow police officer’s PowerPoint presentation and discussion, with free-flowing interaction and questions and answers. After Detective Blackburn’s excellent presentation, people were visibly moved and showed increased awareness of the problem of trafficking. By using a website, Backpage, he actually demonstrated how easily accessible prostitution is right there in the community where we were meeting. He made a call to a listed phone number at a nearby hotel, and we were able to hear the female set up an appointment for later that day.
Ed gave a moving “Call to Action,” after which our Area Aglow Advisor, Pastor Curtis Oliver, visibly affected by the day’s presentation, prayed for the police officers and closed in prayer.
Opportunity was given for any who wanted to be anointed for ministry to receive prayer by the Aglow Advisors, Pastors and some of the Area Team. We closed at noon.
Already we are seeing fruit from this meeting. One Aglow Advisor and pastor has met with the senior pastor at his church in Anne Arundel County and is setting up a meeting with Ed and possibly the Area Team, wanting to see a similar, but larger, outreach from their church and Aglow.
Much interest was generated and we are expecting much fruit to come forth.
